VALLE ESTRECHU Honey & Lemon Shower Gel/Shampoo

Liquid soap for the care of your body and of the earth, made with honey from the oak woods of Liébana and lemon. It is gentle and moisturising, also suitable for sensitive skin. Made exclusively with ingredients approved for organic cosmetics, with very mild cleansing agents derived from coconut, maize and fruit, very rich in certified organic honey and with a pleasant citrus aroma.

Made by Valle Estrechu, the only apiary in Liébana with organic certification.

María (owner of the Vallestrechu apiary) explains:

Why is our shampoo liquid? The current trend is solid soaps and shampoos, which are certainly an advantage when it comes to packaging, as they need no plastic. But a formulation like ours cannot be made in solid form:

• Because the surfactants are not the same, and solid surfactants, even the very expensive ones, tend to be more irritating.
• Because in a solid shampoo the proportion of surfactants is at least 50%, while liquid actives stay below 10%. Even if you work up little lather or use it on very wet hair, the proportion of surfactants will always be too high.
• And above all because we could never formulate a shampoo like ours, in which pure honey makes up more than 30% and all the surfactants together (very mild ones) come to less than 25%.

As well as cleansing very gently, honey is moisturising, repairing, nourishing (very rich in trace elements), antibacterial, anti-allergic and emollient. Without all that honey, our shampoo would not be what it is. The water-honey-surfactant-actives ratio is exactly right to wash without irritating, and to treat, nourish and strengthen the hair. Sensitive skin, fine hair and children need a shampoo like this.

And why do we not use glass bottles? Because this is a product used in the shower, so it is very likely to slip, fall and break. In this particular case we do not feel that risk is worth the ecological advantage of glass. We use recyclable plastic: please dispose of it properly (yellow bin).
