SUMMER Botanical Formulation
“SUMMER” Mother Tincture
From the south comes extreme heat. Heat creates fire. The forces of summer create heat in the sky and fire on Earth. Together they create the heart and the pulse in the body.
And the tongue, and the colour red, and the bitter taste. The emotion of joy and the ability to laugh. (Nei Jing).
In all the ancient medicines, summer is regarded as the season in which the fire element manifests and expresses itself. Fire (the force of the SUN) dwells within the human body in the heart -the dwelling place of the spirit and of the mental energy that fire symbolises- and in the organs related to it: the pericardium and the small intestine.
The word, as an expression of the mind, is related to Fire, as is the tongue, which is an important internal energy channel and a fundamental diagnostic element in heart disease.
Fire also governs the vessels and arteries, as well as the pulse, elements physiologically related to the heart. The complexion and the expression of the face as a whole, as an outward sign of the mind (the face is the mirror of the soul), are also associated with the heart and therefore with the inner Sun. A face that expresses health, freshness and life reflects good circulatory and psychological balance. Fire is associated with the bitter taste, its bodily humour is sweat and its corresponding sense is touch. The Fire element is responsible for love, passion, the desire to relate to others, the enjoyment of life, enthusiasm, intelligence, clear thoughts and the physical warmth that is essential to transform and carry our Vital Energy through the body.
The signs of Fire imbalance are: a reddish colouring around the eyes, a hysterical tone of voice (forced cheerfulness) and a lack of joy. Speech disorders and the physical condition of the tongue reveal imbalances in our solar force, usually connected with the heart and the pericardium.
In Spanish, to have a “corazonada” (a hunch) means to receive an intuition, underlining that it is through the heart that we perceive our inner voice and communicate with our soul.
When the heart works as it should, blood circulation can take place without problems and the blood then plays its nourishing role. A healthy-looking face and skin, bright eyes, a balanced and vigorous pulse, a calm mind, ease of speech and expression, a good memory… all reflect a healthy heart. The person RADIATES JOY, WARMTH AND ENTHUSIASM.
At Esencias de Liébana this formulation is made to bring us into harmony with the summer season, cleansing, balancing and toning our circulatory system.
Made with the moon in Leo, a sign ruled by the Sun. The plants have also been gathered under this sign, so as to direct the forces of the plants to the place we want to treat.
Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna), the plant of the heart, is one of the most widely used medicinal plants in the world for improving conditions of the heart and the circulatory system. Thanks to its flavonoid content, hawthorn has a cardiotonic action: it strengthens the heart and improves coronary circulation and the nourishment of the myocardium.
It is also a good coronary vasodilator and anti-sclerotic thanks to its sterols and triterpenes. It also regulates blood pressure and heart rhythm disorders. A recent study has linked the medicinal properties of Crataegus monogyna with an antiarrhythmic effect. In therapeutic use it is cardiotonic and hypotensive, it calms distress and eases dizziness.
Burdock (Arctium lappa), the cleansing plant, is regarded as a remedy that helps free the body of toxins, including heavy metals. Its potassium and inulin give burdock a powerful diuretic and cleansing action. It is also detoxifying, antibacterial, hypoglycaemic and digestive. It lowers blood glucose and has a hypotensive effect, linked to its condition as a diuretic plant.
Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis), the cordial plant. Lemon balm leaves contain above all a small amount of essential oil. Its main components are alcohols and aldehydes such as citral and citronellal, which give it its characteristic aroma and its antiseptic and digestive action. It also contains phenolic acids, tannins and bitter principles. All of this together promotes a sedative, anti-hysterical and antispasmodic action. It is a harmonising plant, usually combined with hawthorn, helping to calm palpitations caused by anxiety or nervousness, and it also lowers and regulates blood pressure.
Magnesium oil (sea water rich in magnesium chloride) from the salt flats of the Mediterranean. Our metabolism stores magnesium in various vital organs such as the heart, the liver and the kidneys. Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in our cells and forms part of more than 300 enzymes. It strengthens the heart muscle and helps keep the heart rhythm steady and appropriate. It helps to alkalise the body. It has a soothing effect on muscle pain. It regulates the nervous system, acting as a natural tranquilliser, and keeps the neurons active, improving proprioception. It is involved in the formation of serotonin, which improves mood and self-esteem and helps against depression and stress.
