ISIS – Great Sorceress

Facial serum recommended for spring and summer. A concentrated oil that nourishes the deep layers of the skin and brings radiance.

Isis was one of the most important goddesses of ancient Egypt.

Isis was considered the archetypal mother; her name means “knowledge” or “woman of flesh”, and her attributes are courage, warmth and compassion.

She is depicted as a winged goddess, and it is said that “her wings spread a heavenly fragrance across the earth and brought fresh air to the underworld”. She is also portrayed with the headdress of Hathor: a solar disc (as she is the daughter of the sun god, Ra) between the horns of a cow (representing fertility).

This goddess gives her name to this formulation, with which I want to offer you the properties of 6 flowers whose fame stretches throughout history as allies of beauty and which feed the feminine energy of the skin. Six is the number that represents Venus (another of the goddesses representing love, fertility and beauty), and that is why there are six flowers in this formulation.

I made this product to nourish our skin in the seasons of Light (spring and summer). It is a light, concentrated oil that strengthens the inner layers of our skin and, with its aroma and its information, brings it into rhythm with these seasons.

We can obtain the benefits of the rose through both its scent and its components; it is a flower with many benefits for skin health. The medicinal functions of the Rosaceae are attributed in part to their abundance of phenolic compounds. Phenolics have a wide range of pharmacological activities: antioxidant, free-radical scavenging, anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-mutagenic and antidepressant.

In spring I gather petals from my neighbours’ old roses and dry them naturally (in the shade, in a well-ventilated place). I then macerate them in oil, one of the natural solvents able to extract the essential oil. I repeat this process three times over the summer, autumn and winter.

Camellia oil from Acemelia is a delicacy with which I want to season this formulation. Its composition is a luxury, since it contains a high concentration of fatty acids such as arachidonic acid (an omega-6 fatty acid that forms part of cell membranes), myristic acid (part of the lipid bilayer of all cell membranes), phytosqualene (improved hydration and skin rejuvenation) and oleic acid (which rejuvenates the growth of skin cells and increases firmness and flexibility); it also has a high content of vitamin E (an antioxidant that helps protect the skin from external damage and ageing). For all these reasons it prevents the formation of wrinkles and helps keep the skin firm, even (free of blemishes) and elastic.

From the autumn leaves and the flowers of the geraniums I grow, I obtain an alcoholic extract rich in anthocyanins, whose mission both in plants and in our skin is to prevent cell oxidation. The high-proof pomace spirit I use to make these extracts is also able to extract geranium essential oil, rich in citronellol (antiseptic and antibacterial), geraniol (antioxidant and soothing), nerol, citronellyl formate, isomenthone and linalool. This composition makes it a perfect ally for skin care.

The iris, or fleur-de-lis, is a beautiful and powerful plant. Its secret is its great capacity to adapt to its surroundings; it grows anywhere, among rocks, beside paths, on the walls of houses and even on rubble. It grows in damp atmospheric conditions and is equally able to flower in drier ones. Neither extreme dryness nor a very humid climate affects it, since it can store large amounts of water in its rhizome underground, making it self-sufficient and independent in its growth. A master of balance whose beauty, radiance and longevity depend on its extraordinary balancing capacity, adding or retaining moisture as needed. For all this and much more, this royal flower is in this formulation. Traditionally the rhizome was macerated in wine as a remedy to remove freckles, and in the high perfumery of Tuscany its essence was highly prized.

A flower essence is a preparation that works with the information of the plant. I obtained this elixir from Mediterranean almond blossom by solarisation. The almond is one of the first trees to flower in the year. It blooms at the end of winter and the information it offers us is that of learning to adapt. When circumstances change, adaptation allows us to keep developing and maturing. For our skin, this information is a guide to adapting to the new season and a reminder of this attribute, so that it can move through the changes to come.

Finally, to complete this garden on our skin, comes the scent of frangipani flower in the form of a diluted absolute (still natural), as its cost is very high. A captivating aroma that seduces from the very first moment. It offers excellent soothing properties on both a physical and an emotional level. It brings peace and harmony to our mind while relaxing muscle tension and our nervous system.

And so spring arrives… discreetly, slowly awakening the fields, the gardens and our skin.

  1. On a clean face, apply 6 drops directly to the skin. (Used daily at this dose, the product will last you more than 5 months.)
  2. Rub your hands together to warm them and, with your fingertips, press gently over the whole face until you feel the product has penetrated. The warmth of your hands helps carry the product into the inner layers of the skin, and the pressure encourages circulation and therefore improves absorption.
  3. You can give yourself a gentle massage, without stretching the skin too much, working from the centre line of the face outwards.
  4. This serum can be used before applying your cream.
